Messy Desk = Brain Panic

When I talk about feeling overwhelmed, it's hard to explain what's causing that feeling because it sounds like ordinary stuff: babies, housework, bills, life, etc.

Here's a visual.

Panic inducing mess.

I had a minor panic attack just sitting here trying to figure out where to begin cleaning it. I haven't balanced my checkbook in months and months. I have checks buried in here that are expiring because I lost them and couldn't find them. I have replacement credit cards sitting in their envelopes pretending that they're important enough to replace the old ones in my wallet (Expiration date? What expiration date? It's a piece of plastic, why does it have to "expire"?). Business financial information. Paid bills. Past due bills. Caitlin's schoolwork. Old drawings. Seeds. Empty photo albums waiting for me to get my act together.

Yeah.

Panic!

I still haven't sent out holiday cards to my friends and relatives for whom I don't have email addresses. I haven't sent any thank you notes, either. My business taxes are due. I have photos to edit. I really really need to back up my hard drive.

I haven't finished my library book, either and now it's overdue. I had three weeks to read a book and I couldn't do it. Normally, a book takes me a few hours. Now? Oy!

I'm trying to clean it up a little at a time. I'm breathing deeply. I'll get through this mess.

It could be worse. I could be in my closet. Don't even ask about my closet. [Shudder!]

What's your most terrifying mess?

And terrifying, no?

It looks a little better today, but still not done. Maybe I should do a photo series on the Mess that Would Not Die.

My desk looks like that. And the kitchen island isn't far behind.

Good luck (and you might want to start with a glass of wine)...

Well, my desk isn't far behind yours. I let the papers pile up and then I can't find anything but I know I saved it... you must know how this goes. Hell, I can't even set down my coffee cup sometimes. I shouldn't admit these things out loud. My basement needs some serious cleaning/reorganizing and my current excuse is it's too cold down there. Seriously, it is cold. Maybe I should turn it into a root cellar!

Big ideas, but I'd rather be blogging or quilting.

At least all your crap is in one house, not spread out across two states and three houses, as my
sh!t is in the move that will not cease!

But I feel for you, having a desk like that on a regular basis, when my crap is all in one house. : }

LOL, I feel your pain! Not only is my life of total chaos and disorganization exactly as you described yours, I'm MOVING IN SIX DAYS. To a smaller house (if that's even possible). No packing done to speak of, no movers called, no nuthin'...I think what we both need is Calgon, a bottle of wine, and some serious productivity power. :-) Good luck.

We have neatly arranged piles of things we're going to get to later. Later hasn't arrived yet so the piles have been multiplying in the kitchen, desk, bedside tables. I have yet to find a home for car seat warranties, old medical EOB's, the allen wrench that adjusts the highchairs and coupons. It is on my to do list, right under putting my wedding pictures in an album. HALF of the pictures are in the album the rest are in a box. I swore before our first wedding anniversary I would have it done, then I changed it to finish it on winter break from Nursing school once again rectified to when Im on maternity leave........they're still in the box.
